After a long time off the wall, Travis and Josh invited me out to McKinney for some good times. Even though I had no chance of sending anything, I thought it would be a great chance to bust out the camera and get back into some old habits. After warming up near The Prow (which was actually my whole session..Lame) Josh had the inspiration of jumping on Whiplash. If you have never heard of this climb, it is about a 5.5ft..45-degree..V6/7 Dyno off of some burly crimps at Mckinney Falls. Not to mention the top-out is usually covered with Poison Ivy slime. But without further ado, here is the Sloth and all of his glory!

Check it out on YouTube for HD.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to keep you updated on what was happening in the world of CCC. As of lately Shaun has been shredding the gnar since he broke his hand and Travis has been lighting up the business world with the launch of Trail to Mountain. Other than that, Shaun is graduating from St. Edward’s in about a month (**main reason he has been out of the climbing scene and having no life**).

Also, CapCityCrimpin was recently interviewed by a local blog, Spoken City, about our blog and what some of our favorite loca places are. You guys should check em out, they are helping support the local independent business community by making the hard to find local information easily available.

Last night I went and enjoyed my first gym session in quite a while.

Totally forgot what it feels like to build finger strength.  Achy.

The process has begun!

I feel bad.  Not really bad, but I do feel like I’ve been letting something get the better of me.

Here’s the deal:  I haven’t been climbing rocks.  I think its been a little over two months since I pulled myself off of the ground with anything other than my piddly little hang board.  Truthfully, I was starting to get a little worried that I wouldn’t get the urge to climb back.  I’ve been seeing my gear in the spare bedroom, and the pads in the back of my car looking very lonely for long enough.  Luckily its back, the psyche that is.

I suppose I’ll let everyone know what I’ve been getting into.  Running…yup, thats it….a lot of running.  I really don’t know what got into me.  About three months ago I decided to join a running group at Lululemon downtown, the group was being coached/led by a very nice UltraRunner named Merideth Terranova (check out her blog and services).  The initial drive to join the group was free Lululemon gear, and a little bit of getting some free coaching.  The running group was to prepare for the Cap10k, which Lululemon would pay for if you attended enough early morning runs.

I initially set the goal of running a 5k race in under 20 minutes.  I had run one 5k previously, which took me a little under 22 minutes to finish.  Which isn’t bad by any means, and was just fast enough to allow my brain to run wild with “I’m a born runner” thoughts.  So, I figured I would make my goal for the Cap10k to finish in under 40 minutes.

My goal to run sub-40 at the Cap10k did not come to fruition.  After doing a good bit of running and reading since then I now recognize that my goal was quite lofty.  I ended up running the 10k in 45 minutes exactly.  Since then I have run quite a few 5k races and am happy to announce that I have settled into a comfortable solid 19 minute 5k, and I still feel like I have quite a bit of room to grow.

In short, I have decided that I will be a rock climbing runner.  Which means I’m going to attempt to continue training for running and resume training for climbing.  In case you were wondering…

Current Goals:

Running -

1 Mile – Under 5 minutes

5k – 17:xx

10k – 39:xx

Half Marathon – 1:20:00

Marathon – 3:00:00

Climbing -

Bouldering – V10

Sport Climbing – 5.13

Boom.

Big news!

It looks like Austin might just may be getting another option for climbing indoors.

Crux Climbing is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing a non-profit climbing gym to Central Austin.”

Considering the “non-profit” part, if you like the idea of this type of  thing in Austin (which we totally do).  Go to the website and get added to the mailing list! Better yet, send them an email and volunteer your time or services.

Good luck to all involved.
